In our base-ten system, every place isย ten timesย the place to its right. Tenย onesย = oneย ten. Ten tens = one hundred. Ten hundreds = one thousand. All the way toย 1,000,000. A digitโsย valueย comes fromย which placeย it lives in, not just its face. Toย compare, walk left-to-right until digits differ. Toย round, pick a place, then look at the digit to its right: 5 or more โ up, less than 5 โ stay.
