A number’s factor pairs are the rectangles you can make from that many creatures. If a number makes only one rectangle (a single-file line), it is prime; if it makes more than one, it is composite. “Times as many” is multiplication, not addition — 15 is 3 times as many as 5, but only 10 more than 5. A rule generates a pattern; the pattern often has features the rule never spelled out.
