Your quiz’s settings page holds the default rules — when it opens, how long students get, how many attempts they have. But real classrooms need exceptions: the whole class takes the quiz during Tuesday’s math block, one student needs double time, another was absent and needs a later window. In Sleedu, you handle all of that with overrides — special rules for a group or a single student that sit on top of the quiz defaults without changing them. This guide shows elementary teachers how to use a group override to control exactly when the class can take a quiz, and the same trick works for giving one student extra time.
Step 1 — Open your quiz
From your course page, click the quiz you want to control.
Step 2 — Go to More → Overrides
On the quiz page, click More in the quiz’s own tab row and choose Overrides.
Step 3 — Know your two kinds of overrides
The page opens on User overrides — rules for one student at a time. Notice the warning in the screenshot: user overrides only work after students are enrolled in your course, because you pick the override from a list of your actual students. If your roster is empty, this page has no one to choose.
Since we’re setting a rule for the whole class, click the User overrides dropdown and switch to Group overrides, then click Add group override.
Step 4 — Set the rules for your class
Fill in the override form:
- Override group — choose Students, the group your whole class joined when they enrolled.
- Require password — you can give the class its own quiz password here. Press Enter to save it.
- Open the quiz / Close the quiz — the exact window when this group can take it. In the example: Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM — one math block.
- Time limit — how long each attempt lasts, here 1 hour.
- Attempts allowed — how many tries this group gets.
- Reason for override — an optional note to your future self, like “Tuesday math block.”
Step 5 — Save
Click Save — or Save and enter another override if you want to add a second rule right away, for example a different window for another group. Revert to quiz defaults clears the form back to the quiz’s normal settings.
Step 6 — Check your work
The Group overrides page now lists your rule: the Students group opens Tuesday at 10:00 AM, closes at 11:30 AM, has a 1-hour limit, and needs a password. The pencil edits it, the copy icon duplicates it, and the trash can removes it — the quiz’s own defaults are untouched underneath.
