How to Reset Your Course in Sleedu

How to Reset Your Course in Sleedu

At the end of a semester or school year, you can reset your course in Sleedu to get it ready for your next group of students. A reset removes old students, their submissions, and their grades — while keeping everything you built: your activities, quizzes, question banks, gradebook categories, and period groups. You do not need to rebuild your course from scratch.

⚠️ Before you begin: A course reset permanently deletes student data. Make sure final grades have been exported or recorded in your school’s official grade system before resetting. This action cannot be undone.

1

Open Course Reuse

From your course page, click More in the course menu (the row with Course, Settings, Participants, Grades, and Activities), then select Course reuse from the dropdown.

2

Select Reset

On the Course reuse page, click the Reset link. This opens the reset form, organized into sections you can expand and collapse.

General — Set Your New Course Dates

In the General section:

✅  Course start date — check Enable and set the first day of your new semester
✅  Course end date — check Enable and set the last day of your new semester
✅  Delete: Events — clears old calendar events
✅  Delete: All notes — clears old notes

Roles — Unenrol Your Students

In the Roles section:

✅  Unenrol users — click Student in the list so it’s highlighted. This removes all students from the course.
✅  Delete: All local role assignments — check this box
⬜  Delete: All overrides in course — leave unchecked

💡 Tip: Select only Student. Don’t select teacher roles — you want your co-teachers and support teachers to stay enrolled.

5

Gradebook — Delete Grades, Keep Your Structure

This is the most important section to get right. In Gradebook:

⬜  All items and categoriesleave unchecked. Checking this would wipe out your entire gradebook setup: categories, weights, and grade items.
✅  All grades — check this. It clears the old students’ scores while keeping your gradebook structure intact.

6

Groups — Leave Everything Unchecked

In the Groups section, leave all four boxes unchecked:

⬜  All groups
⬜  All group members
⬜  All groupings
⬜  All groups from groupings

Your period groups (Period 0–7) and their enrollment keys stay in place, so next semester’s students can self-enroll into the correct class period on day one. Group members are removed automatically when the students are unenrolled — you don’t need to delete anything here.

7

Assignments — Clear Old Submissions

In the Assignments section, check all three boxes:

✅  All submissions
✅  All user overrides
✅  All group overrides

This removes old student work and any extended deadlines you granted, while keeping the assignments themselves ready for your new students. If your course has other activity sections (such as Quizzes or Forums), check the equivalent “delete attempts / posts” options there too.

Run the Reset

You may see a “Reset not supported” section listing Question banks. That’s good news — it means your question banks are never touched by a reset. All the questions you’ve built stay safe.

Scroll to the bottom and click the red Reset course button. A confirmation window appears asking “Are you sure you want to reset the course?” — click Reset course again to confirm.

Sleedu then shows a progress screen with a stopwatch icon while your course is being reset.

⏱️ Be patient: A full-year course can take a while to reset. Give it up to 30 minutes and come back — and while the reset is running, do not navigate to other pages on Sleedu. Step away, grab a coffee, and check back later. When the progress bar finishes, your course is clean and ready for next semester.

What’s Removed vs. What’s Kept

🗑️ Removed

• Students (unenrolled)

• All grades

• Assignment submissions

• Deadline overrides

• Old events and notes

✅ Kept

• All activities and quizzes

• Question banks

• Gradebook categories and weights

• Period groups and enrollment keys

• Co-teachers and support teachers

That’s it — one reset at the end of each semester keeps your course fresh without losing any of the work you’ve put into building it. Need help? Reach us anytime through live chat or at winelements.com/support.
