Your quiz settings hold the default rules — but a secondary teacher rarely wants one rule for everyone. Period 1 tests in the morning, Period 5 after lunch; one student’s IEP calls for time and a half; someone was absent and needs a make-up window. In Sleedu, all of this is handled with overrides: rules for a group or a single student that sit on top of the quiz defaults without changing them. This guide shows how to give each class period its own testing window and password with a group override — and how the same move gives one student extra time. The example is a first-semester chemistry course, but it works for any subject.

Step 1 — Open your quiz

From your course page, click into the quiz you want to control.

Step 2 — Go to More → Overrides

On the quiz page, click More in the quiz’s tab row and choose Overrides. Notice what the quiz page already tells you: attempts allowed, the password requirement, the time limit — and, once you have overrides, a line reading “Settings overrides exist.” This page is where you confirm at a glance what your students will experience.

Step 3 — Two kinds of overrides

The Overrides page has a dropdown with two modes. User overrides are rules for one student at a time — note the warning in the screenshot: they only work once students are enrolled, because you choose from your actual roster. Group overrides are rules for a whole group, and in a secondary course your most important groups are your class periods. Switch the dropdown to Group overrides.

Then click Add group override.

Step 4 — Set the rules for one period

Fill in the override for your first class:

• Override group — choose the period, e.g. Period 1.
• Require password — give this period its own password, like period1pass, and press Enter to save it. A per-period password means a Period 1 student can’t pass the quiz password to a friend in Period 5.
• Open the quiz / Close the quiz — the exact window for this period, here Wednesday 8:13–9:56 AM.
• Time limit and Attempts allowed — whatever this period should get.
• Reason for override — optional note to your future self.

Step 5 — Check the list — and change it any time

The Group overrides page now shows each rule: who it applies to, when their quiz opens and closes, and whether a password is required. Nothing here is locked in — the pencil edits an override, the copy icon duplicates it (handy for making Period 2’s rule from Period 1’s), and the trash can deletes it. Your quiz’s own defaults sit untouched underneath, so you can adjust on the fly: a fire drill eats half of Period 3? Open their override and push the close time back. Changes take effect immediately.
