I started my journey as a science teacher in 2011 at a Title I high school. In roles such as Induction Coach and co-department chair, I've been privileged to witness the challenges in classrooms as well as those encountered by school administrators. Throughout this journey, I led my department's Professional Learning Communities, participated in the district's Science Subject Councils, and engaged in numerous leadership trainings facilitated by a variety of consultants and Professional Development specialists. Yet, after over 100 hours of training, the gap in understanding between classroom teachers and school administrators only seemed to grow. Neither group seemed to possess the right technology, teaching methods, or resources to effect meaningful change. As a result, they often reverted to their old ways.
Together with Amy and Arthur, I co-founded Win Elements LLC. Our aim was to offer SLEEDU as a comprehensive technology solution that fosters the implementation of research-based teaching practices. However, instead of embracing our innovative solutions, we encountered resistance from teachers and school leaders holding on to outdated perspectives. Similarly, forward-thinking teachers like us often found themselves marginalized by a majority who clung to older methods. Regardless, we persevered. The effectiveness of our approach became particularly evident during distance learning, as our students consistently excelled.
