Adding Two-Digit Numbers

Adding Two-Digit Numbers

Adding Two-Digit Numbers Step by Step

  1. Write the Numbers in Column Form: Place the two numbers one above the other so their units (ones) and tens are lined up. For example:
     23
    +45

  2. Add the Units (Ones) First: Add the rightmost digits (the ones). Write the sum under the ones column. For example:
     23
    +45
     --
     ..8

  3. Add the Tens Next: Now add the digits in the tens place. Write the sum under the tens column. For example:
     23
    +45
     --
     68

  4. Combine the Results: The complete sum of the two numbers is the combination of the ones and tens sums. Here, it’s 68.
  5. Check Your Work: It’s always good to check your addition by re-calculating or using another method.
