Add Multiple Digits Numbers

Adding Multiple-Digit Numbers

Adding Multiple-Digit Numbers Step by Step

When adding numbers with more than one digit, we line up the digits by their place value (ones, tens, hundreds) and add each column starting from the right.

Example 1: Adding 123 and 456

  1. Line up the numbers, ensuring the ones, tens, and hundreds places are aligned.
  2. Add the ones place: 3 + 6 = 9.
  3. Add the tens place: 2 + 5 = 7.
  4. Add the hundreds place: 1 + 4 = 5.
  5. The final answer is 579.

Example 2: Adding 237 and 128

  1. Line up the numbers with ones, tens, and hundreds places aligned.
  2. Add the ones place: 7 + 8 = 15 (write down 5, carry over 1).
  3. Add the tens place: 3 + 2 + 1 (carried over) = 6.
  4. Add the hundreds place: 2 + 1 = 3.
  5. The final answer is 365.

Note: If a sum exceeds 9 in any place, write the ones digit and carry the tens digit over to the next left column.
