What is the best Hybrid Learning solutions for teachers and students?
There are many hybrid models, but all hybrid models have a combination of in-person and virtual learning. With COVID-19, schools are forced to divide students into separated cohorts. The different schedules for different cohorts creates the most difficult challenge for teachers to plan and deliver instructions effectively. Teaching students in person is very different than teaching students virtually. For example, teachers often rely on worksheets or face-to-face direct instruction for in-person sessions. However, most teachers rely on technologies for asynchronous activities through virtual sessions.
However, the most important aspect is the inconsistency of daily lessons. Traditionally, teachers have daily lessons, and they would plan accordingly based on their students’ performance daily. However, different cohorts do not allow teachers to plan based on daily tasks.
More importantly, there will be teachers who may be absent for weeks due to COVID-19 infections or other personal challenges. Teachers cannot give students zero points for those missing assignments, and the students are forced to left behind.
Therefore, a solution for the hybrid learning model with COVID-19 must consider all of those aspects and variables without sacrificing the safety of teachers, students, and their family members.
What is the most effective, affordable, and flexible solutions for all teachers with little interruptions and stress?
Flexible, Consistent, and Easy
Our solution allow teachers and students to switch between hybrid and 100% distance learning with little interruptions and stress. Most importantly, there will be no changes to students’ daily schedules, classes, or teachers.
Prioritize the safety without daily consistency.
Our solution is flexible that allow schools to implement without making any changes to their current master schedules or students’ classes. Most importantly, districts can divide their students into small cohort to reduce their students to as low as 20% of their students populations.
In our example below, we have three groups: A, B, and C. Students in group A are immunocompromised students are extremely at risk with COVID-19, and students in this groups participate daily via live Zoom interaction.
For other groups, districts can divide into as many groups as needed to reduce the number of students on campus. In our model, we have group A and B alternating, so students are seeing their teachers at least two times per week. With the support of counselors, they can strategically assign students into groups to make sure student populations on campus is keep about 30-35 percent, or lower. This can be done simply by encouraging students to participate in a 100% distance learning group.
More importantly, schools may strategically have academically at-risk to be in the in-person groups. Likewise, failing students who are not immunocompromised are encouraged to attend in-person.
AN EASY SWITCH TO 100% DISTANCE LEARNING SCHEDULE
What are possible challenges for teachers?
It is not a perfect a solution. However, teachers continues to enjoy daily consistency and teach in safe learning setting. COVID-19 has completely changed our education, and it will not be the same forever.
The only thing that teachers have to sacrifice is the perfection of normal teaching we had before COVID-19. Second, teachers have to turn on their Zoom during the live sessions. This is the most challenging aspect for all teachers. Students at home will never have the same learning quality or engagement as students who are in classes. However, it is a lot better than what we have right now, where 100% of students are behind the screen and not being accountable for their learning. Most importantly, they are missing the crucial social and academic development provided through in-person interactions.
What is the right tools for the solutions?
There are many different technology and tools out there. Your teachers do not have to use the tool we describe below. However, teachers do not really need a technology with fancy bells and whistles; we need practical and essential functions that are essential to daily teaching:
- Assign, collect, and grade assignment easily and quickly
- Assign assessments and auto-grade assessments in real-time
- Comprehensive gradebook that records all students’ grades, responses, and other important data about students’ learning outcomes, efforts, and progress.
